How To Choose Your Wedding Flowers
Beautiful blooms could make or break your big day. We love working with brides to bring their wedding flower dreams into reality, and here are a few top tips and things to think about when planning your wedding flowers…
Inspiration. Have a look at bridal magazines, browse pinterest, watch movies… gather inspiration! What flowers do you like? Which don’t you like? Create a moodboard, or a pinterest board, of ideas. Think about the style, are you going classic with tight bunches of roses, or more romantic with softer arrangements of peonies and hydrangeas?
Colours. What’s your colour palette for your big day? Do you want the flowers to match your wedding colour scheme, or contrast with them?
Budget. This is a tricky one! Weddings are expensive, so it’s important to be realistic. If you want your whole venue dressed, bridal bouquet, button holes and flowers for the wedding party, then make sure you set aside a good budget.
Your venue. Different venues suit different styles (and sizes) of flower arrangements. Speak to the venue’s events manager, or to your florist, to see what they would recommend for the size and space.
DIY or florist. Are you going to have a go at doing the flowers yourself, or enlist the help of a professional florist? Flower arranging isn’t easy and perhaps it’s a stress you don’t want to have on your big day! (Although if you are going to be creative and have a go yourself, why not come along to one of our Workshops to pick up some flower arranging skills that will help!). If you are going professional, choose your florist carefully. Most will offer free consultations, so pop in and chat. Go with your gut!
Timing. It pays to organise your wedding flowers in advance. Don’t leave these decisions until the last minute as they will only add to the stress of your big day! Get in touch with a florist as soon as you have a date and a venue booked in.
Top Tips:
Go for seasonal flowers! These will be more budget friendly, and look fresher and more beautiful.
Vases are key. Don’t let your bridal bouquet wilt during your wedding party! Have a vase of water on hand to pop the bouquet into to keep it looking fresh. It will act as a table display too.
Use foliage to make your wedding flower budget go further. Eucalyptus has a beautiful pale colour and scent, and is a great way to dress a venue and tables. Rosemary, ivy and olive can be used to create beautiful wreaths, crowns and to fill out bouquets.
